Lawrence Dean Nelson, 85, of Youngstown, Ohio passed away on Saturday morning, March 2, 2024.
Lawrence Dean Nelson was known as Dean to his family friends. Dean will be remembered for his love for his family and his generous spirit.
Dean was born on July 22, 1938, in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of Lawrence Percy Nelson and Blanche Marie Stahl Nelson. Dean grew up on a farm, where he often went down the hill to obtain fresh milk for his family. After serving several years in the Army in Greenland, Dean moved to Florida during the employment crisis. Dean eventually moved back to Youngstown, where he retired from the Youngstown City Schools as a Crossing Guard Supervisor.
Dean enjoyed going to garage sales, swimming at Cape Hatteras, and visiting his friends and family. Dean especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dean is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mary Ann O’Neil, as well as 6 stepchildren.
Dean leaved behind 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gary (Brenda) Nelson; and one sister, Helen Keslar along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dean was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Nelson; three sisters, Sally Sareran, Doris King, and Norma Jean Nelson Keslar; and his stepson, Thomas Thompson.
Family and friends may pay their respects from 9-10am on Monday, April 1, 2024 at St. Anthony Church, 1155 Turin Ave. Youngstown, OH 44510 where a memorial mass will be held at 10am.
Burial will take place at Belmont Park Cemetery in Youngstown.
